You can probably remember a time as a child where you were being disciplined on a point and it was your parent's intention to correct your behavior; however, all you were aware of is the fact you were being yelled at, you were scared to death and frozen like a deer in the headlights. Do you remember a thing about what was said to you? Obviously not good parenting tips.
One of our associates tells the story of when her father, who was a very large man, would get right in her face and yell at her. She completely froze and didn't remember a thing about what he was saying - only that he was angry at her. Later, when she grew up she had realization from that situation and developed several techniques for handling and instructing children where the child would actually receive what she was telling them or instructing them in. These techniques are available to you.
But for now, the moral of the story is you need to let your anger subside before you attempt to instruct or educate a child on a point of behavior. Otherwise it does absolutely no good.
